snowbirds
May 17, 2020
In honour of today’s tragic accident of one of our iconic snowbirds, I am sharing images taken back in 2015.
Many of us just call them the Snowbirds (their official name is the Canadian Forces 431 Air Demonstration Squadron) and they put on an impressive display over the waterfront this past Wednesday.
Some interesting facts are: they can get as close as 1.8 m (5.9 ft) in many of the formations; they fly between 100 knots (190 km/hr) and 320 knots (590 km/h); the planes are the Canadair CT-114 Tudor; they officially formed as an aerobatic flying team.
It’s not easy capturing images of the manouevres and fly-bys from the ground!
