big leaf

The gunnera leaf can measure up to 8 ft. across. This leaf is hiding a wicked stem and plenty of spiny thorns! It is considered an invasive species in Ireland and New Zealand.

This plant was found in Cathedral Grove, part of MacMillan Provincial Park. The Grove is an old-growth forest that is an ancient Douglas fir ecosystem. The largest trees in the Grove are about 800 years old, 250 ft. in height and about 29 ft. in circumference.

Everything in this park is BIG and simply breathtaking.
