mermaid steps
September 11, 2020
Along Dallas Road, near Ogden Point’s breakwater, is a set of stairs. Actually there is more than one set of stairs. The first level stairs lead to a viewing landing. The second set leads to the ocean. This is the second set leading down from the landing. These steps provide access to the waterfront—very hard to call something so rocky and narrow in width a ‘beach’. And when the tide is in, the bottom steps are completely immersed.
This viewpoint is wickedly engulfed during storms and high winds; so much so, that Dallas Road is often closed along this stretch of the roadway.
These steps captured my eye for the symmetry in the walls on either side of the stairs and the lines that draw the viewer into the image. While I do not know if these steps have an official name, I call them the mermaid steps for obvious reasons.
