Boats weather all kinds of storms, but neglect and abandonment can be the final storm of them all.
Derelict boats can be found in hidden corners and in plain sight. They rot and rust until their is no float left in their soul. This small boat was part of a collection by an old woman who found something in it worth saving. So odd, don’t you think, that this boat was left high and dry in a yard on the coast of Vancouver Island?
The faded colour, the condition of the boat and the forest yard in which it lies captured my attention as I explored the domain of a woman recently passed and who could not let it go. Why, I wondered, did she feel the need to keep this boat? No doubt there are countless stories in the hull of this boat…and I will never know them.
